Description
The goal of the Coalition to Reduce HIV in Broward County is to increase awareness of the HIV problem and decrease incidence of sexually transmitted infections among 18-39 year olds in the African-American, Caribbean, and Hispanic communities.
The Coalition conducted a community needs assessment from 1999-2000 and then designed a multilevel, multi-sector, and multi-phased intervention in order to enhance the essential services provided by the Broward County Health Department. Intervention activities included: HIV/AIDS education outreach sessions, various culturally competent resident-focused HIV/AIDS outreach activities, training of community volunteers in HIV prevention, and providing HIV prevention supplies to the target population.
